Katherine’s Exploration in FIQWS Writing and Reading

The main component of writing and reading that I learned this semester in my FIQWS course is the rhetorical situations and rhetorical terms of texts. Throughout this course, the two professors have made it their long-term goal to successfully teach the class about the rhetorical situations, and its significance when constructing a good essay. I learned the main parts of the rhetoric: pathos, ethos, and logos, where pathos focuses on the audience, ethos focuses speaker or writer, and logos focuses and the subject. I also learned about the rhetoric’s components of rhetorical situations: while the first three are the most important, the purpose, audience, and stance, the genre and medium or design also contributes to the rhetorical situation. Such knowledge of the rhetorical situations was demonstrated through my various writing where I demonstrate exploration of different genres and rhetorical situations and analyzing such texts as well by using the rhetorical terms and strategies.

Discussion Posts

Throughout the course of the semester, I had to analyze various, different works like poems, transcripts of conversations, literacy narratives, and other forms of writings and genres. Therefore, through my discussion posts that I uploaded through blackboard, I demonstrated the exploration of different genres and rhetorical situations as I incorporated various, different texts with different rhetorical situations into my analyses for my discussion posts. Additionally, I analyzed the texts by examining the purpose, audience, and stance through the ways that each texts use pathos, ethos, and logos. Therefore, I also demonstrated analysis in writing of rhetorical situations when examining the works used for the discussion posts. Through my discussion posts, I used rhetorical terms in my language to show clear analysis of the text, as shown below:

Self-Assessments

Additionally, I also demonstrated the use of rhetorical terms and the analyzing of rhetorical situations through my self-assessments of assignments. These self-assessments are meant to explain the parts of the assignment examined and the choices made int he assignment. I use the concept of pathos, logos, and ethos throughout my self-assessments to clearly explain my choices in a way that flows to my audiences. I also use the rhetorical terms in my self-assessments to incorporate the right language when explaining my examinations of the texts used. Thus, I demonstrate the analyzing and practicing of key rhetorical terms and strategies when engaged in writing situations through my self-assessments that can be viewed in the links below.

My Poetic Response Assignment

Just like my other pieces, the poetic response assignment demonstrates the exploration of different rhetorical situations and the recognition of rhetorical terms an d strategies when going about the creative pieces I created for this assignment. I try to play around with syntax, lexicon, and prosody when constructing my poems, but I also successfully attempt to do different structures to portray my message. With the consideration of the rhetorical terms, I use pathos and ethos in my poems in different ways in each piece to successfully illuminate my message or takeaway of the poem. Additionally, as each poem dabbles at a different topic in different rhetorical strategies, I demonstrate the exploration of different rhetorical situations as I successfully attempt to construct different types of poems, including odes, elegies, found poems, list poems and freestyles. Therefore, I demonstrate exploration of various rhetorical situations and the consideration of rhetorical terms and strategies when engaging in writing situations, as seen through my poetic response below.

FIQWS Poetic Response

Conclusively, I demonstrate the exploration, analyzing, and incorporation of rhetorical situations and rhetorical terms through the works shown. With so much practicing and application of the rhetoric and its strategies, I believe that I now fully understand the definition and significance of the rhetoric and its components, just as my professors wished us to meet by the end of the semester.
